Mosquito Bites

Becky Yates, 40, from Blackheath loves to travel abroad, especially the Greek Islands, but she has a problem- every time she goes there, she is bitten by mosquitoes- not just a few but dozens. In fact, in 2002, she counted 56 insect bites over her body.

“They swell up like golf balls and become infected,” she explains. “I look and feel terrible. If I am bitten around the ankles, they swell up so badly, I can’t get my trainers on.”

The most active ingredient in a mosquito repellant is called the DDT. This is what makes a mosquito repellant effective in keeping off mosquitoes from any where near your skin to sting. Yes it’s effective, but how? And will it compromise safety?

Mosquitoes are celebrities. The way they spread diseases is just as fast as scandal acts. Sometimes rumors are true; sometimes though, overstated. Once you’re bitten doesn’t instantly mean you’re going to die; yet at the same time mosquitoes are science-proven to be disease-carriers. Life-threatening as it may or not, one deserves to know what’s true and what’s not, the mosquito facts as well as the fiction. There’s a thin line between mosquito facts and fiction. In dealing with mosquitoes we need to know what to do and knowing what we should listen to. Here are the mosquito facts; hopefully from which we could spot the fiction:

When you are domiciled in a tropical region, your first line of defense should be to avoid being attacked by pestering minute creatures. Difficult as it may to understand but they can actually take away your very precious life that is why it is very critical to readily be removing itch from mosquito bites. It can result to very fatal conditions such as the West Nile Virus that emerged in Africa on 1937 or the La Crosee Encephalitis that originated in Wisconsin on 1963. Each year, the number of casualties has been increasing and the worst part is that, most of the victims are children. If you are a parent, you

should not be taking this lightly. They are identified to be very successful in their means of survival because they can easily adapt to whatever sort of environment.

Mosquitoes are not as stupid as they look. They won’t go away just because you’ve been flaunting your fly swatter at them. In fact, mosquitoes are maybe even endowed with brains that are larger than the size of their tummies. Well, people said that mosquitoes used to be slow. And I mean real slow that you can apparently kill them using your feet. Hundreds of years of swatting at them probably motivated them to move fast, letting you do some stunts before you can successfully kill one. Otherwise, they would have been forced to extinction. Perhaps, this has driven people to come

up with better means to drive mosquitoes away.
